Should I take my Christmas Bunting down yet?

Well, Christmas has been and gone and I didn't even show you my Christmas bunting. I fell in love with Sweetwater's 'Countdown to Christmas' line of fabric and found myself in possession of a few fat quarters! Some of my lovely friends and family found themselves with my Christmas bunting on their walls at Christmas and I have to confess that mine is still up! I'm just waiting for some more fat quarters to arrive and illake something to replace it with. In the meantime, it stays!!

Passport Cover

Following on from Tracy's idea to stitch a patchwork to a fleecy blanket, I was given more inspiration from my friend Nic, who asked me to make a passport cover for her God-Daughter's first birthday.  That was good - I like new ideas. I don't have many myself so I rely on others to inspire me!  But then she hit me with it and asked me to embroider a name on it!  The pressure was on, but, I think I've passed the test.  It was a bit more scary to get right but I'm loving the Cath Kidston star fabric that Nic chose.  Good call!  Watch out for a few more passport covers popping up over the next few weeks in my Etsy & Folksy shops, and if anyone else has any good creative ideas for me, let me know!

My First Quilt

Well, I told you about my new quilting obsession.  My first foray into quilting was caused by my buying a 'Freebird' by MoMo for Moda charm pack.  I had no idea what was buying it for - I just loved the fabrics, and I loved that you can buy the whole range in just a 5" square pack.  "So, I'll just sew them all together" I though to myself, which I did.  They sat in the box like that for a month.  "Shall I make them into a bag? A purse? What?"  Inspiration hit me -"I'll try a quilt".  YouTube is wonderful for finding lots of tutorials!!  Anyway.  That was in February and here is the finished result.  I'm just get a bit frustrated about how little time I have to quilt some more.  Hey ho, never mind. Maybe soon........

Patchwork on a blanket

My new obsession is quilting.  I've actually only completed one (I'll post a picture soon), but there is another in the pipeline.  I do love the 5" square charm packs you can buy - someone else has done all the boring work of cutting out for you!  (Am I the only one who doesn't like the cutting out bit?).
My friend Tracy, having seen my 'quilt in progress' asked me to do some similar patchwork that, instead of being quilted together with wadding and backing, could be sewn directly onto a big fleecy blanket.  Anyway, we found a random assortment of fabrics in my stash and using the 'disappearing nine-patch' technique, I came up with this!

History

Well, perhaps a bit of history is needed here.  How did I get to this point?  I used to enjoy messing with my Mum's sewing machine when I was a child but it stopped there.  I then started making Christmas stockings for my 3 children and after the making the second one by hand I thought "I really must buy myself a sewing machine".  So I did. Not really knowing what I was doing I just bought a cheapish one - and so far its good!  After my 3rd son was born I discovered waterproof bags (Wet Bags) on Etsy (to carry around cloth nappies, or wet clothes or whatever you fancy really) and thought that they were wonderful.  My only gripe was having to ship them from the US to the UK and thought that perhaps a UK seller would be useful.  So I had a go at making them myself.  I have experimented on lots of other ideas and now make key fobs, wet bags and baby play blocks to sell.  I've also started making changing mats, book covers and have recently developed an obsession with quilting.  I'll post a bit more on the new things I am developing but for now, here are examples of things I am currently selling.
